Bodega Bay will hit the mid 60’s while Bolinas and Stinson Beach will be a few degrees higher in the upper 60’s. The rest of the coast will also be cool by the afternoon, with highs only reaching the mid-60s. From Highway 1 along El Granada to Half Moon Bay, the morning begins with thick fog that clears around 10am. Pacific Coast and Peninsula: It will be a misty and chilly start over the coast and beaches with lows in the low 50’s. If your plans lead you to the Italian Heritage Parade, skies will mostly be sunny, with breezy conditions and temperatures in the upper 60’s. The highs will be cooler, with highs only hitting the low to mid 60s from Presidio to SFSU. Areas west of Highway 1 will see some sunshine, but cloud overcast for most of the day. Then the sky is mostly sunny and the wind occasionally blows from the west with gusts of up to 40 km/h. In the morning there can be wafts of fog until around 8:00 a.m. San Francisco: Morning starts with lows in the mid 50’s. This shortwave trough won’t bring precipitation to the Bay Area - but showers and thunderstorms are possible along the Sierra Nevada crest, mostly south of Highway 50.
Additionally, highs for the inner Bay Area will be slightly cooler starting Tuesday. If so, Monday’s shortwave trough will deepen the sea layer, resulting in denser fog near the coast and valley. It looks like a crease on a hollow pattern.
A shortwave valley is an area of low pressure that can bring cooler weather or support thunderstorm development.
The weather is determined by ridges or valleys that look like wavelengths in a synoptic weather model. Our weather pattern is influenced by a weak shortwave trough sliding down from the northeast.
